  5. Data is becoming ever more important, often touted as the new or future currency. However, unlike currency, data has to be easy to find and actionable for it to have immediate value. With the sheer volume of data being generated it is difficult for any organization to easily manage and retrieve data. As companies expand into hybrid environments, it becomes even more important for the data to be appropriately managed. This is where an intelligent data strategy can give customers a leg up on their competitors. High-End Storage Platform, HPE Primera, Unveiled At Discover
  6. Businesses need to innovate to stay competitive and relevant. Many are embracing digital transformation in order to improve their processes and give their customers better experiences. Doing so comes with many advantages but also introduces several complexities that make data and processes hard to manage. Not only that, embracing digital transformations can increase costs through software licensing or get customers stuck in vendor lock-in. HPE Expands Its Hybrid Cloud Portfolio
  7. The spread of as-a-Service offerings over the last few years has been dramatic. While aaS offering so many more benefits, users need a consistent cloud experience to get the most out of it. A consistent cloud experience allows users to effectively manage all of their critical apps and workloads while having the performance needed to innovate. HPE claims that the current paradigm for enterprise technology underserves the market, inconsistent experiences can lead issues using services, limited choice, and higher costs. HPE GreenLake is looking to quell fears of the above with a robust as a Service portfolio that gives customers choice, flexibility, and speed to market. HPE Expands Its GreenLake Offerings
  8. The edge becomes increasingly more important as the Internet of Things (IoT) is leveraged more and more. IoT can change the way companies interact with the world while generating trillions in revenue. Organizations know that they have to not only work at the edge but to do so intelligently, hence the implementation of the Intelligent Edge (an architecture that is fully connected, secure, distributed and autonomous). The problem that arises is scaling the Intelligent edge while keeping it secure and not making it overly complex to manage. HPE is taking several steps in ensure the Intelligent Edge can scale securely and simply. HPE Delivers Innovations To The Intelligent Edge

  18. Your video benchmarks would be much, much more useful with CODEC and bitrate? Emphasis mine. Given that this is a system review, I was surprised you didn't include any benchmarks to back up the gaming or audio claims made-- no gaming benchmarks/comparisons to other systems, no even basic audio benchmarks/measurements of things like DPC latency? And video encoding wasn't tested, only decoding? Also for an office system, noise, while not critical, might deserve some observations, especially under heavy load doing the gaming or video and audio mentioned? I realize this is StorageReview and not MotherboardReview.
  19. Based on the performance of the benchmarks and the ad-hock testing that we performed on the system we feel that it would make a very good mid-range system for a demanding office user that uses typical office applications, does demanding web browsing, and plays streaming videos. The CPU and GPU in the system would work well as mid-range gaming or video and audio system. It should be noted that systems Type-C port gives this system the ability to work with eGFX enclosures. Intel NUC 8 Mainstream Kit (NUC8i7BEH) Review
  20. Kingston is putting together some pretty good drives in their SATA family. Nice to see...what should be relatively easy apparently is not.

  25. Running the bleeding edge of software has its advantages and its disadvantages. I have found that running beta software in my home lab to be useful in testing client solutions, that being said I work with IT for a living and can generally spend the time to fix problems when they arise. It's ultimately a gamble, but in this case I've enjoyed the new features with few headaches along the way. QNAP has done well to continually add to their QTS platform and the associated extra bundles. How to Install QNAP QTS 4.4.1 and Hybrid Backup Sync 3 Betas
  26. According to IDC, data will begin being generated at a rate of 103 zettabytes a year by 2023. Those numbers may go up before then. Data centers today leverage general-purpose architectures that are not up to the task of the coming data tsunami. Much of the data being generated or about to be is from video, IoT, Edge, and surveillance, all of which is sequential in nature and can be zoned into large chunks for better organizing and analyzing. This zoning of data can lead to better performance as well as lower TCO. Western Digital Launches Zoned Storage Initiative
  27. The Asigra FreeNAS solution also features a signature-less malware detection engine that identifies and quarantines unauthorized or malicious embedded code from penetrating backup and replication streams. It constantly scans all backed-up data so it can automatically prevent ransomware attacks from impacting the backup and recovery processes. Lenovo Next Generation of ThinkPad P Series Mobile Workstations
  29. While “digital transformation” has become a nebulous buzz phrase in recent years that can mean quite a few different things, there definitely are digital trends causing many organizations to take action. For instance, many companies are moving to the public cloud for its economics and agility. No longer do they have to wait to have new hardware installed to take advantage of innovation nor do they have to worry about maintaining hardware. With this, the as-a-Service (aaS) model is also gaining in popularity. Keeping this in mind, Kaminario is continuing to improve its STaaS model. Kaminario Expands Its Storage-as-a-Service Offerings
