So, on a proportional basis, and allowing for population, what was Australia's contribution to the coalition? Equal to the UK maybe? Equal to Poland?

Don't be so desperate to minimize Australia's contribution to the effort. The political capitol contributed would have been sufficient to warrant gratitude on behalf of America. Whether you support the war or not, at least be gracious enough to accept a thank you for the support your country has given. Or is that too much to ask?

Jeez you can be a rude, insulting prick, Giver.

Now, one more time, what is the scale of the Australian commitment? If you cannot even answer that, then your qualifications to speak on the subject are laughable.

Why thank you Tannin!

The Giver will answer your question with one of his own, followed by an appropriate suggestion.

Did The Giver Thank Australia for the scale of it's commitment? No he didn't did he? He simply thanked them for their contribution. If you don't like that - that's your problem.

If you want to argue about the scale of Australia's commitment, start your own thread because that particular issue is irrelevant and doesn't interest The Giver.

In other words, you don't even know. Typical.

 Who CARES about the scope/scale of the Aussie commitment.. The fact of the matter is that they COMMITED. When most countries turned their backs on the US, they stood with us... So, for me, I salute the Aussie's & UK for whatever they have done. They are/were jeopardizing their men/women's lives just like we were. I cannot stand the ignorance of some people...

Australia committed 2000 troops. In responce mostly I think, to the Bali bombing...

Even without the Bali bombing, Australian troops would have gone into Iraq. We do whatever the US does. Well our government does anyway.

As usual, we see the loudest comments from the most ignorant people. No surprises there. Congratulations to Occupant, as the only one to half-answer the question. Well done, as far as you went, Occupant.

Now, how does that compare with the contributions of the USA and the UK? Is it:

(a) A genuine attempt to provide a contribution to the campaign which is significant in military terms?

(B) As much as can reasonably be expected from a relatively small country like Australia?

© About the same as the effort put in by the UK, allowing for the size of the countries?

(d) A token effort, vastly smaller than the effort Australia could have provided if it had really wanted to help?

(e) Somewhere in-between the above?

(f) Other.

Readers are advised to ignore posts from contributors who seem unable or unwilling to answer this fundamental and very simple question - we need not pay attention to people who are hopelessly ignorant.

-----------------------

Bonus question: Taking the numerical size of the Australian contribution to the invasion of Iraq as a given - i.e., roughly 2000 personell - were the particular forces sent:

(a) The most useful and powerful forces the ADF had available, given the US and UK forces already in-theatre?

(B) The cheapest possible way to send 2000 personell?

© The lowest-risk way to send 2000 personell, defining "risk" as "Australian casualties"?

(d) A more-or-less random assignment of whoever happened to be readily available, so as to make up the numbers?

(e) A carefully balanced and well-thought out force with a mix of capabilities designed to fit neatly into the gaps in the US and UK order of battle?

(f) Some compromise or mix between two or more of the above?

We Iraqis are free today at last. A thousand thanks - we won't forget what you have done.

Why am I not surprise with your statement Mustafa Hussein,People that have been living under one dictatorship and exchanging for another dictatorship such as the one that is coming out of the white house and its republican cronies normally kiss of the feet of their oppressors.

you have indeed make that person in the white house who got there by default extremely happy and contented and made it all the easier for his next decision to invade any country that he will decides on.

who is next Syria,Libiya,Iran and many more, they are all Arab states which Israel considers to be a enemy and we all know the Pentagon and the white house won't tolerate that.

the country that has shown they have Weapons Of Mass Destruction but we all know they will not go to war there because they tried it before and Lost.

so what does this mean, America will only go to war against a country that cannot defend itself, this is truly showing,

American republican democracy at its best.
