Best HD setup for dealing with archive files

Recommended Posts

Whats the best system setup for compressing and uncompressing large (1GB+) .RAR .ZIP .TGZ files etc. ?

Right now I'm using:

amd tbird 900

512mb sdram

WD 120GB JB CAVIAR SE 8mb.

The problem is it takes ages so I am wondering what the best setup would be for building a new system for this job?

Like many things, faster processor, more RAM, and a faster hard drive.

Compression tends to be most dependent on CPU horsepower, so that's a good place to start.

by far from personal experience go with dual processors

it will cut the time in half literally when extracting

a scsi setup would help for obvious reasons
