Pirated Games

Recommended Posts

Hi

I recently downloaded Freelancer, and after playing it for two days thought "damn, this is a good game, I'm going to buy it!", which is my usual approach to new games to avoid me parting with £40 for dog food. I was quite shocked when I found out that the game is not even going to be released for like another 2 months!! I have downloaded and tried games a week or so before they are released, but I am very curious as to how a game can be leaked onto the net so long before it is generally released. Is it really so hard to control the distribution of a game before it is released that you can't stop some bugger from releasing it months before the intended date???

By the way, I've really enjoyed playing it and it has been completely and utterly bug free so far. I'll be buying it when it comes out for sure.

Says here release is in slightly less than two days. Big countdown clock on the homepage.

I just hope that game won't be so dull as Earth & Beyond, cause it looks to be pretty similar. Spending two thirds of your time at warp through a starlane and the other third walking through a cluttered and convoluted starbase... terrible.

I feel the same way, I often buy games that Ive already tried in either a demo version, or a pirate version(if there is no demo available) Iam not about to shell out $50-70 for products sight unseen...

I think its reasonable for customers to demand a demo version that they can try before they buy.

Hmm, here are some "facts" :

Freelancer was cracked ~21st feb. I've got it on 22nd,

and finished in less then 3 days. Game is OK until You

finish regular campaigns (13 of them) after which U R

way to strong for any opponent.

So, after U save the galaxy  ,

U can trade, "mine" (whatever that is) or continue with

so called freelancing

(more like a mercenary then a freelancer to me)

The only chance this game has is i: Multiplayer/Online.

Once again, singleplayer part is gr8 only for first

few days, after that it's unbelievable boring.

But that's "only" my opinion. Or perhaps it isn't? :D

Best Regards,

Sasab

A freelance is, or at least was, a mercenary, the term freelance originally meant a knight who didn’t owe allegiance to anyone and was therefore available for hire.

I wrote this on the 2nd day I was playing it, and after the 3rd I had finished the missions. I will agree with what the other bloke said about you being the hardest man in the galaxy after than, and when I befriended the Corsairs and bought their ship (hardest in the game) and hoovered up all the level 10 weapons you can find in abandoned ships I was stupidly hard. I can't find any more reason to play it now, as there is no more story, I have explored all the systems and have bought all the coolest stuff. 5 days solid playing from that one until I'd done everything there was to do.

Considering what was promised I find this game a bit lacking now, it's not truly open ended enough to stand alone as such, and there isn't enough of a story. I actually have a list of criticisms as long as my arm now! Why do pussy little outcasts attack what is officially the "Hardest Ship in the Galazy" when a single shot kills them? That should be sorted.

Also, why is it that you can slaughter all of the pirates and assorted scum but there are still infinite numbers of them all over the place? I would like it if your actions against various groups in the sub-missions or otherwise actually affected the balance of power.

While I'm on the subject of the sub-missions, they are crap. Same thing over and over and over and over again. Go to space, shoot some stuff. Why not some variety, like patrol or escort duty? Hell in 4 years you would have thought they would have come up with something!

All in all, after several days of skiving things to play this game I can say that after showing initial promise it becomes an above average space shoot-em-up, nothing more. It's no Elite, I'm afraid.

Cheers Occ,

My predilection for German medieval epic poetry does have some benefit after all.(check out “ Parzival “ by Wolfram Von Eschenbach, the A.T. Hatto translation).

German Epic Poetry? Is that like Wagner? "the music is better than it sounds"

Yeah, sort of.

Truth be told I’m not really fussed about which country it comes from, English, French, German, Greek or Nordic. Its all good.

Since I mentioned the German stuff though;

First I should say that I’ve only ever read it in translation. So I can’t comment on the use of language. ( Somehow I don’t feel up to the job of learning medieval German (think middle English with added phlegm) just to read half a dozen or so books).

What does survive the translation is a hyper real, caricatured, almost cartoon like set of stories. In fact the closest analogy I can think of is with superhero comics. Seriously, Seigfried out of the Nibelungenlied is like Superman with a sword, better dialogue and nastier enemies.

Strangely enough Wagner used the story lines from a lot of this stuff in his work, although just like a film of a book his operas took all sorts of liberties with plot and character.
