Windows Explorer hangs when network drive becomes inaccesibl

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure that other users are experiencing the same thing. My Windows XP and 2000 have the same problem. If a mapped network drive is not responding or responding slowly Explorer hangs and I often have to kill the process through the Task Manager. I find this extremely annoying that an unavailable Network Drive should hang explorer and often affect the performance of my entire system (usually the CPU usage jumps to 100% and if I'm lucky Explorer times out saying Drive X: is not available).

Is there any way to fix this annoying problem?

i have never had it crash

it does, however, time out after what seems like a little longer than 2 minutes

try waiting a while, and it should pop up with a red error and you can continue
