WD 8TB S.M.A.R.T - ID 22 Unknown attribute

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

did someone meet the error ID 22 in S.M.A.R.T monitor? I have googled and the problem should be caused that hard drive is filled by helium:
"They responded by saying that attribute 22 is the status of the Helium in a drive. It is a pre-fail attribute that trips once the drive detects that the internal environment is out of specification."

I suppose that backup is recommended now. Do you think that reseller should accept a complaint?

Thank you in advance
David

If the drive is still under warranty, you can definitely RMA it. The Helium will only escape from the drive if the case gasket is defective. Unless you played football with your drive (or something similar) :) , that can only happen because of factory defective components.

And yes, a backup is most definitely required.

thank you :) I noticed it during copying of some file that data rate significantly decreased (now it is normal even though err persist). HDD is in the case (no vibration or physical damage). Additionally, it is the youngest drive in my PC... So simply I did not lucky :)
