HGST Ultrastar SN100 Series 2.5" NVMe SSD Review Discussion

Overall, the HGST Ultrastar SN100 series is a high-performing NVMe drive that performs quite well with applications that can benefit from local low-latency storage. One of the most attractive features of this drive is its easy deployment capabilities; supporting stock NVMe drivers allows users to hit the ground running without installing additional software.

Maybe, no, but NVMe is supported by Yosemite and later and there are plenty of Macs with SATA connectors that can run Yosemite. Also, the new 2016 MacBook comes with NVMe flash storage. One could add one or two to a PCIe card and put that into their classic (pre-2013) Mac Pro.

Won't matter much, as Intel Optane drives and DRAM will be out by early 2017.
