Speed of mSATA WWAN in Lenovo T520

Recommended Posts

I own a Lenovo T520. After 3,5 years I decided to upgrade it (500GB HDD full, 8GB RAM almost always used up to 7,5GB).

I was looking at this upgrade guide (http://www.storagereview.com/lenovo_thinkpad_t520_upgrade_guide). I bought this mSATA 250GB disk: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct250mx200ssd3 and installed it into the mSATA WWAN slot.

My questions: I don't see a speed specification for this slot anywhere (the other transfer rate of other SATA is given as 6.0Gbps). I was expecting my mSATA disk to "fly" and it does not. --> Is the mSATA as fast as the SATA? Am I missing something? Should I rather have bought a SATA disk and installed it in place of the optical drive (for greater speed)?

Any information will be welcome. Thanks!

Have you run a basic speed test on the drive yet? I haven't used that platform in a while, but it may be limited to SATA 3.0Gbs speeds in the mSATA slot whereas the primary and secondary (optical drive) are SATA 6.0Gb/s slots. That said you really won't feel more power from that identical drive being in a faster bandwidth slot.

On feeling it fly, what were you expecting and how was the upgrade performed?
