Scratched platter

Recommended Posts

I opened my Seagate Backup Plus Slim 1TB external harddrive after I dropped it on the floor while running and it wouldn't show up on my computer anymore.

The attached photo is what appeared for my eyes.

Can it be repaired or did I just loose all photos, music and videos?

What do you think?

The scratch and fall most likely killed it, but opening up the drive nuked it with no chance of fixing it. Opening the topic cover not inside a clean room environment brings recovery costs into the tens of thousands of dollars range. Do you have a backup of this data?

Drive (and data) are toast. The fall caused the heads to smack into the media, leading to the head crash (that ring-shaped scratch on the disks). It isn't repairable, although data recovery might be possible, albeit *very* pricey.
