Western Digital/HGST Release 10TB PMR Helium HDD

Recommended Posts

This marks the third generation of sealed helium drives offered by HGST. This generation also marks an increase of 25% over the previous generation while using 56% fewer W/TB than air filled HDDs. The helium drives had some concern over adoption due to being an untested technology, however after shipping millions of drives over the last few years the drives have proven themselves.

10.8 watts at idle, 16.3 watts when operating. That is unlikely for both 5V and 12V to combine to that amount of power/waste heat at the same time for any length of time. Using Helium, it's supposed to be quit energy efficient. 7 platters PMR+SMR+helium
