newbie to home storage.. questions.

3 posts in this topic

Hi everybody I am a video enthusiasts and I don't like to delete videos. (HD) no. of hard drives at home expands very quickly. I expect to need 12 T every year and now I have a couple of external desktop (3.5) hard drives by Seagate. Some of data very important (less than 20%)

Some of the drives are getting old... maybe 2-3 years now. I have no backup solution now. I am so worried.

Any ideas?

You may take a look at SAS solution

It's expandable up to 128/256 drives as RAID5/6/50/60. With proper controller you can perform an online expansion. Meaning add a HDD into the group and expand the existing volume

Step one is to figure out a backup plan. NAS to Glacier maybe depending on how critical the data is.

Otherwise are you wanting this all in one volume or are you content just to have a hodgepodge the way it is now?
