Crucial BX200 SSD Review Discussion

Recommended Posts

The BX200 is Crucial’s latest addition to their economical SSD line, offering mainstream consumers an inexpensive way to upgrade their PCs or laptops from a hard disk setup to a rig based on solid-state drive technology. Sporting a 2.5" (7mm) form factor, these SSDs feature a SATA 6Gb/s interface, Micron TLC NAND, a Silicon Motion SM2246EN Controller and ships with a 7mm-to-9.5mm adapter bracket for those using desktops. In addition to its ultra-low cost price tag, the BX200 features incredibly low power consumption, which is even lower than the previous BX100 model.

The pricing is pretty impressive...wonder if we'll see any of the $600 notebook guys go this way over HDDs.

These are MSRP. The MSRP on the 480GB BX200 is $150 where as the 500GB 850 EVO was $270. The street prices will probably be much lower as usual.

The OCZ Trion 100 is incorrectly referred to though the entirety of this review as the "Triton" 100. Was it tested with its updated 11.2 firmware?

We have not updated and retested on newer firmware. Haven't had time for that sort of thing though we can explore an update across the board at some point.

interesting Registration page you have (a question and that image thing that is new)

you really should do power tests as this BX200 has the worst power drawn of any ssd ever made (as its uses that SLC cache thing i believe but its still a single core cpu so the drive is working for longer when its idle) uses about 2 times the power that a normal SSD uses (about 4-8x more then the BX100 used and that SSD is super power efficient), the BX200 is like the worst SSD you can buy for a laptop

just noticed the BX100 review you did do a power tests
