Samsung indicates that they are able to achieve a 4TB capacity in a compact drive due to the latest Samsung HDD technology.

Wow, that's some shocking news! Beware, people, Samsung is using Samsung HDD technology in their HDDs

Apart from this marketing joke: wow, 4 TB in 2.5" is impressive. I suspect 4 or 5 platters in a drive of 15 mm physical height.

So years after the acquisition Seagate is still allowed to manufacture products under the Samsung's brand?!

"The Spinpoint M10P 4TB hard drive enables this innovation with the highest aerial density, 800GB per disk in the world," said Doug DeHaan, general manager, Samsung HDD division.

Just the one line of Spinpoint drives.

Confirmed these are 5400RPM SMR drives, trying to get MORE details. ;)

SMR? As expected as it is, still disappointing. :( Will be curious to see actual performance.

Considering WD just released a 3TB 2.5" (presumably also 12.5mm or 15mm z-height) disk, to go to 4TB almost certain requires SMR with current technology. *sigh*

You're right about that. The WD specs show it to be standard height but we haven't seen one yet.
