Seagate ST6000NM0024 Sata 6TB or ST6000NM0034 SAS 6TB with LSI cont

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Both drives are the same price from my supplier. I currently use LSI controllers in my two PCs. They are connected to SATA drives.

I'm curious since the ST6000NM00034 should be the drive I put in my next system build. I know in Dell servers they require an interposer connector in the drive bay. I'm not exactly sure what that does. Do I need to get any special cables or are the LSI cables that connect to sata drives the same for both?

Depends on the controller kit, you'll have to check to see which cables it has. A random grab of cables from LSI controllers in my spare bin here shows mostly SATA cables, but that's not a good sample since I'm not sure how really random my pile is.

LSI and Adaptec both sell the approrpriate cables pretty damned cheap.
