Lenovo RD640 with LSI 9240-8i horrible performance

Recommended Posts

Good Day,

I have an LENOVO RD640 running LSI 9240-8i (8x Cheetah 15k in RAID10) VMWARE ESXi 5.5. The performance is so horrible. Took my 2hours to install the os in the Virtual Machine. I am guessing this is caused by the RAID Card. Can anyone advice?

What is the RAID configuration for that RAID10 volume? Also 2 hours to install VMware or 2 hours to install an OS as guest?

What read ahead setting? Also write through or write back?

What Guest OS did you install? Are you able to run any benchmarks inside the guest OS?

It could also be the drives themselves:

Seagate has a prescan feature enabled on some drives that can drastically lower performance. Being OEM (gathered from the other thread) you might have that to contend with.

I wouldn't say that yet. Were these drives qualified for the platform?

Have you cross checked the prescan feature if it is on or off? Have you checked the other settings I mentioned? Lastly have you ruled out a drive defect causing problems?
