Recommended upgrade for Dell H710P

4 posts in this topic

I have a system with some SLC SSD's and a Dell H710P controller (LSI 2208 based). I am having write performance problems and I have tried all of the software changes I can think of and it is still too slow.

Assuming the controller is the bottleneck, what is a good PCI-E controller to try instead? I am most familiar with LSI but I would be happy to try another brand if it is likely to significantly outperform the H710P.

Thanks,

Mark

And heck LSI's 9271-series cards should be quite good if you prefer to stay LSI... but yeah, that's a bit light on information for us to be truly helpful. :-p

Parity RAID?

Is OS parity RAID?

OS / storport?

What does resmon show during writes as bottlenecks/floods?

Write back, adaptive, readAhead, caching = on?

(max for spindles, rely all you can on solid state controller over spindles)

If this doesn't resolve; negotiate which setting to which solid state technology : controller/memory or straight to SSD(change in choices)

Tried CacheCade / favorites strategy?

Are the drives tested to work with controller/ from Dell? conusmer/enterprise(just asking)
