I want to pick up a good replacement for the program disk (on the 320GB the are all the programs, Virtual Machine...so it' a general purpose disk)

I'm searching for a 1-2TB disk with 7200RPM and SATA 6Gb/s, as quiet as the Samsung if possible. NO SEAGATE (I hate them, too many problem in the past. sry).

(Samsung was great.. Sigh..)

I've found:

WD Caviar Blue 1 TB

WD Black da 1TB e 2TB (5 year warranty)

WD Red da 1 o 2TB (is ti good in NON RAID environment?)

Toshiba DT01ACA 1TB e 2TB (DT01ACA100 e DT01ACA200)

HGST Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB

HGST Ultrastar 7K4000 2TB

Suggestion?

Kind Regards,

Stefano.

mmm.. i've found on the HGST's site this one: HDS724040ALE640 Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000.

What's the different between Deskstar and the Ultrastar? MTFB?

there is a 2TB model of this Deskstar?

I've tryed to find it out on the HGST's site, but under the desktop drive button's i see only the Deskstar 7K1000.C ... o_O

Ultrastar is the enterprise product. The HGST drives are very good, but carry a price premium. If that's not an issue, they're a great choice.

thank you for your answer, if ultrastar is an enterprise's segment class, then i think that it's out of scope.

So, between Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB and Caviar Blue 1TB which one would you choose for general purpose?

HDS721010CLA332 (this one is a sata 3G, i've searched out a little for the 6GB model but no one sell it in Italy.. :-/ )

Caviar Blue 1TB

and for the bk-data disk, which 2TB 5400rpm? (don't tell me WD green or Seagate)

WD Red 2-3 TB (is possible to use it in a non-raid env?)

Deskstar 5000 2-3TB ??? (It exist?)

an old Samsung HD204UI found in a dungeon?

Ultrastar 7K4000 2TB (I will take note of the price)
