Home Media Backup

3 posts in this topic

I currently am backing up my primary computer with a USB external drive. This is working well for my primary backup. I am looking for an additional backup that I can use to backup and share files across my home network.

I am considering between the Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo 2-Bay Diskless Enclosure, the Synology NAS Server DS213J DiskStation, or Synology DiskStation DS112.

I have read that the Western Digital Red Hard Drives are good for the home raid systems. Could you use the Caviar Green drives in a raid 1 setup?

Any other suggestions for a home NAS setup?

I ended up purchasing a Synology DS213j with 2 x 1TB WD Red drives. It works great! It does exactly what I need it to. The synology user guides are great and I was able to go through them to help me setup my NAS. Now I know why so many people have recommended Synology.

Yeah, I use a 2-bay 712+ at home and it's great. Mostly just houses photos and Time Machine backups, I don't do much fancy with it, but it's been rock solid for me.
