OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD Review Discussion

5 posts in this topic

The OCZ Vertex 3.20 SSD is the latest rendition in the Vertex 3 line and now offers a smaller MLC NAND configuration. Most SSDs, such as the Vertex 3 that we reviewed in 2011, have relied on 25 nanometer (nm) process geometry, but OCZ is taking strides to create production efficiencies and cut costs by moving to 20nm NAND die. However, other than decreased NAND die size, updates are minor. The Vertex 3.20 retains the same controller and processor as its predecessor and produces very similar performance.

What firmware version was on this drive, and what version was running on your regular Vertex 3?

I'll need to check the V3.20, but the standard V3's were both running the latest as of what the Toolbox grabbed this week (2.25).

If the 120 GB model is cheap enough it looks nice, but I doubt it's enough to stand against Samsungs 840 with its TLC price advantage.

Probably not, but TLC NAND while Samsung may say is battle-proven, I'm not ready to recommend it to anyone just yet.
