Samsung 840 Pro 256GB Slow Speed/Benchmarks

Hi,

I bought this drive without checking if my Motherboard (Foxconn Blackops) was SATA III compatible, so silly me had to buy a PCI-E SATA III controller card (IOCREST SY-PEX40039).

So my problem is, now it's still not getting anywhere near it's stated speeds, as you can see in the attached images.

It is updated to the latest firmware.

I have AHCI turned on in the BIOS as well as the controller automatically using it.

Also, it is running slower than when it was on SATA II.

Any idea or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Edit: I believe all my SATA cables may be 3GB's.... I shall reply with whether this is the case or not.

The first thing I'd do is make sure you have the latest drivers for that controller card, and also the latest firmware/BIOS loaded on it.

Also check your motherboard BIOS settings for a setting to control the PCIe bandwidth.

The controller is updated to the latest drivers, but I did not see a firmware for it. I shall have a look around, and I shall check the bios after work. Thanks.

So I bought a SATA III cable but to no avail, so I've perused the BIOS and found these but am unsure what to do with them or if they are what you are asking for:

PCIe 1 only supports up to 250 MB/s, try to change it, Foxconn site claims PCIe 2.0, but usually best option should the usage of the normal SATA 3 Gb/s port on your motherboard. IO performance is often better when using internal controller compared to third party controller.

Yeah, it's supposed to be PCIe V2.0 slots, but I noticed it keeps saying PICe 1 in places, and have no idea how to change it. I can't find anything similar within the BIOS.

Under compliancy mode, it only changes between V1.0 and V1.0a.

Edit: I increased the clock speed to 120 I believe, as this is as high as it seems to sit and remain stable, and it has had a bit of a performance increase, which will do for the time being.

I believe this to be down to the controllers firmware needing updated, as similar people seem content that it is what they need to do to fix the Gen 1 problem with these cards.

As I'm not on a x32 platform, I could not update the firmware in Windows. Through a command line boot wasn't accepting it either.

I shall be building a new computer in the near future, so I'll just stick with how it is for the time being, thanks.
