Sandisk 120GB G25 SSD

3 posts in this topic

I just want to report that I installed a Sandisk 120GB G25 SSD on my HP DV7-7012nr laptop and I'm very impressed how fast this thing is. My battery life it is about 10 hrs plus (doing light work and with the SATA hard drive was about 7hrs) and I don't get heat.

Cloning the SSD was very easy. I used Acronis True Image 2013. I'm using the stock 750GB hard drive as an external hard drive for storage. I put it on a 3.0 USB 2.5 enclosure and works great.

Increase in battery life seems too high, but glad you are enjoying the SSD.

Besides storage, make sure to use the old drive for backups. Acronis True Image should have that option.

Also, if you have had the notebook for more than a couple of months, make sure to blow out the vents with compressed air. That and Make sure the vents do not get blocked while in use can prolong the life of the notebook.

I've installed a Sandisk SSD 64 GB G25 (SDSSDP-064G-G25, for around 40 bucks) into a Samsung Netbook and saw a similar increase in battery life. Average power consumption reported by the battery was reduced by about 1 W, which leads to 1-2 hours longer runtime.

Although the SSD is not that fast (it's way below 10.000 IOPS), it was a sensible replacement for the abysmally slow 5.400 rpm hard drive (with 21 ms random access times and linear transfer rates as low as 30 MB/s).
