StorageReview Test Lab: Eaton S-Series Rack Discussion

5 posts in this topic

As the focus at StorageReview transitions to an increased enterprise-centric slant, it's more important than ever to properly deploy an enterprise environment for reviewing SMB and enterprise-grade storage solutions. The latest enhancement to the StorageReview Test Lab comes via Eaton and their latest generation S-Series Rack. The 42U rack is an ideal framework to house our burgeoning collection of servers, rack-mount storage solutions, and networking products, as well as infrastructure pieces like our Eaton 5PX UPS to keep tests running smoothly regardless of the power conditions outside of our building.

I salute your dedication to become more Enterprise Centric.

There are a million sites that handle reviews of desktop HDDs and SSDs, and there is none (or very few) that actually look into the needs that the enterprise datacenter might have for SSDs.

In terms of non-paid reviews, I think you will find there are zero other sites out there that do it this type of testing on an editorial basis. We really hit a niche that we excel in, and with it came a ton of support on all sides. To that end, expect to see a lot of the same type of content (single page reviews, in-depth testing, massive photos B)), but slowly shifting towards full enterprise coverage. The only difference really comes in the behind the scenes work, where the types of testing we are working on take weeks/months of planning and implementation.

I'm just glad Kevin didn't add the pics of the doorframe that had to be not-so-gently removed to get the server rack into the lower level of our building ;)

Hey at least the "damage" was repairable.... we have a nice full-height opening into the basement now for more racks without doorway "customizations". :P
