I think the "point" is that 1) this is their own new controller design, and 2) the performance claims are for incompressible (worst-case) data, albeit still using client workloads.

Well, by having the entire engineering team in house I'd assume better reliability too, probably a fiar claim, but as you say, we'll see.

When we talk about performance, it's not just top line IOPS and MB/s...there are dozens of other ways this can be better beyond what we showed in the initial report.

Actually not common. But still a real problem which took painfully long to resolve.

Plain drive failure (as linked to by Ace) is another real issue, which I can confirm from personal experience.
