Quite an interesting product, indeed. If the drive could be swapped out when it fails, I would be inclined to give this a shot in an everyday PC. However, alternatively, based on this review and the more recent Synapse review, I'm guessing that this drive also requires software to be installed in a Windows 7 environment, thereby nullifying the drive's use under VMware's vSphere?

Right now the main OS the drive is sitting on has to use it as the boot drive, and it has to be running Windows 7 (or 2008 R2). You could run VM clients from there, but it all has to be sitting on that drive initially. And yes, right now you are locked to the Toshiba drive on the Hybrid, although any drive can be used with the Synapse.

Thanks for the confirmation, Kevin. It would appear that while this wouldn't currently work for vSphere, this should work for someone running Microsoft's Hyper-V.
