Is AgeStar External Enclosure 2.5'' compatible with 3TB?

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody!

I've got AgeStar External Enclosure 2.5'' for 2.5'' Serial ATA HDD.

I am intending to buy a 3TB HDD: Western Digital Sata 2.

The sizes of my enclosure are not compatible with the sizes of HDD. But sockets are. Will the sockets work? Or do I have to buy enclosure 3.5'' anyway?

Assuming you're trying to plug a 3.5" HDD into a 2.5" enclosure: no, this will not work. 3.5" drives need both +5V and +12V power, while most 2.5" laptop drives usually only need +5V (and thus, your 2.5" AgeStar likely only supplies the +5V).
