Acer is recalling 22,000 laptops - burn hazard

Recommended Posts

This is fun - the microphone wire under the palm rest on 22,000 Acer notebooks can short circuit and overheat, causing a burn. Apparently it's happened three times already, but not in the US. The models affected are 13.3" models and the Aspire line - AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG.

I know a few people that have acer machines. They unfortunately, seem to have consistent quality control issues with their laptops. I could not recommend an acer product to anyone in good conscience.

Hmm, when I talked to the tech guy at Staples, he told me the mid-range and upper range of the Acer line was very reliable. It's the lower end models that seem to have a lot of issues but the same holds true for most brands.

When it comes to laptops, Acer is not my first choice. I prefer Fujitsu or Lenovo. I ever asked my friend about Acer laptops. He said that Acer laptops have consistent overheating issues.
