Anyone tried the new drives from WD?

Recommended Posts

What about the WD7501AALS? It shouldn't be to much different than the WD1001FALS, right? It has also the same no. density of platters. Or does it use 3 250GB platters? Sorry if I ask, but I could find any clear information on that.

WD is notoriously secretive about the internal platter configurations, probably so they can use two, three, or however many platters they chose to rather than what you want. :P

I would strongly suspect that like the Samsung F1 750GB and Seagate 7200.11 750GB that it is 3x250GB platters though.

Yes, I recently added a Caviar Black 1 TB to my computer
Did you take notice how noisy it's compared to other drives or does it vibrate much?
I've got a 1TB one sitting in an Antec MX-1 for backup use.

(yeah, I know it's a waste :P price was right though!)

Then again at least optical discs are getting awfully small for backup use...
