The other benchmarks also show a relatively small advantages for the SSD vs. WD. At least, I would have expected bigger differences.

Here is a guy that got one already and put up his experience and benches

OCZ Core SSD Review

This is very interesting:

Note how write performance starts to be very irregular at 25% of the drive. I wonder if the drive has both SLC and MLC. So, the first 16GB would be SLC and the remaining 48GB be MLC

This has evident cost, performance and reliability advantages.

- On NTFS, after windows installation, the MFT, pagefile and hibernation tend to be created at the beginning of the drive.

- The beginning of the drive is most intensively used, it fills with time. So statistically, most of the access will be to the beginning of the drive

- The odds of quickly finding small gaps for "Temporary Internet Files", small temp files, folders and a place for small writes typical of log files, are very high when the system scans the $Bitmap for free clusters

So, this would make it much closer to SLC-only longevity, performance and reliability, being just a bit more expensive than MLC-only.

No, it's all one type of flash

Those read and write tests are totally invalid as he is doing them with the OS and apps running from that drive. There is no telling what other activity was occurring during those tests that could have skewed the numbers. Wait for a proper test with no data on the drive.

Ok then. But there's already an controller that allows it, please see here:
