Read Error. Test Aborted.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Back with another HD problem :P A storage drive in another computer is coming up with this error during a HDTune benchmark test. Upon receiving this error I did an error scan in HDTune and there were many red blocks. What does this mean? Physical damage? I did a chkdisk X: /r on it and it still errors.

I would suggest using the drive manufacturer's free utility to test the drive rather than HDTune (which I've never used so I can't interpret). Each drive manufacturer has a diagnostic utility (with final go, no-go results that are very easy to interpret) specially designed for their drives.

Read errors can mean things as simple as bad cables, which most manufacturers' utilities can detect.
