Yet another hilarious IE exploit

Recommended Posts

Just saw this on Slashdot. .

OK. This one is particularly disgusting for two reasons. 1.) Microsoft was apparently conectact regarding this problem in November and 2.) They still haven't fixed it.

The code on the site, if executed through IE, will launch minesweeper. I suppose it'd be just as easy to read some data off your hard disk.

Yet another argument in favor of Mozilla, if you ask me.

Yes, Microsoft's security record has made them a legend, but I still maintain that IE is the best browser. It seems everything has a tradeoff. If you go with Mozilla, a great browser in its own way, it does subtle weird little flaky things which are numerous and minor (but irritating). If you use Conquerer, many plugins don't work (same for Mozilla to a lesser degree).

Opera is small, fast, and has some nice features (mouse gestures) but is not free and has trouble rendering more pages than the other browsers.

I think we should all dump our browsers and use Lynx. :-)

Amen.

For kicks, I used to use my Apple ][ running CrossTalk under CP/M to dial in to a shell account. I never felt that my WordStar files were at risk. :)
