Samsung F series?!

Recommended Posts

A bunch of german shops has have it for more than two month. Most say not available, some have date for approximately one month ahead. The date moves forward on a daily basis. The latest date is 15.09.2007. But I guess the date will be moved forward next week. My guess they will be available in december :).

2 months from the announce and nothing :(

O.K., is this something, maybe?

Note that the F1 specs have changed again, perhaps in view of other available and planned terabyte releases, and other advertising. (Of course, it's easy to change the drive specs if they're only on paper. It's much harder to actually redesign a drive and its electronics.)

Non-recoverable read error: was 1 in 10^14; now 1 in 10^15

Seek Power: was 13.4/9.5 W; now 9.7/9.2/7.0 W

R/W Power: was 9.5/8.0W; now 9.7/8.8/6.5 W

Idle Power: was 8.2/5.4W; now 8.7/8.0/5.5 W

The most-recent old F1 specs are here:

I hate waiting..... As I've searched the net I've observed that F1 was announced in June (for example here http://www.behardware.com/news/8891/333-go...au-samsung.html - June 11, 2007). So 3.5 months and no drive on the market.....disappointing :(

Yeah, waiting sucks bigtime..

I keep telling myself that I'm getting way too old for all this waiting, but find myself waitng all the time.. jezzz i need to get a life (and 12 HD102UJ).

Samsung now lists also F1RAID series on its website, too.

The specs are mostly similar and model numbers are similar (same) to the general-purpose drives, only the prefix is "HE":

HE103UJ, HE753LJ, HE502IJ, HE322HJ

It's just the same "Nearline enterprise RAID drives" thing WD and Seagate started couple of years ago and also Hitachi followed later...

A German shop updated availability to 1st of November. Usually there is 6-9 month gap between paper release and real availability. I guess they start shipping them in Jan-Mar.
