Any cons formating USB memory to ntfs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Is there any known cons to format USB memory stick NTFS?

These come fat32 for wider compatibility only I guess.

I have experienced problems with external HDD units which are factory default fat32.

Copying from ntfs to fat32 eternal disk produced file errors with accented chracters in music file names and I had to format my hdd to ntfs. (or to be percice - a data DVD burnt from ntfs hdd was the initial case when I noticed the ntfs and fat32 incompatibilty problem

For the same reason I consider that formatting USB memory to ntfs avoids possible problems with lost or unreadable files.

Well, a journalized FS usually causes more writes per transaction than a non-journalized one, so the lifetime of the media may be shorter.

I also format external hard disks and memory sticks NTFS when I know I'm only going to use them with OS'es that can read it. Many problems disappear.
