Replacement

Recommended Posts

G'day all, I'm new to this forum. Thank God I found it. I've got a Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 60GB with about 15 gigs of mp3's on it; that has a trashed power connector :( . Where can I find a replacement PCB for it  . Everything else is fine I just need to replace the pcb and get it up and going again. all help deeply appreciated.

Thanx

Sometimes replacing the PCB can completely ruin the data on the drive. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In the case of a stuffed power connector, I wouldn't take the risk of swapping the PCB and would instead hook some wires directly up to the power pins so the drive could be powered up.

How dangerous are you with a soldering iron?

If you by chance find a hard drive with the same firmware version on it, it will be very safe to swap the PCB. If you found one that has different firmware, but close in the ASIC silk screen (same chip) and manufacturing date, then it is probably safe too.
