I had 6 x 9.1 gb disks and configured RAID 5 on Compac Prolian PL1600R server (use build in SCSI controler). It work fine until one day i remove all 6 disk to clean up the server but i forgot to label the position all the disks, I mixed all them up now I can't remember the position of each disk. Now i can't boot up the server, anyone can tell me how to resort 6 disks. Thanks alot.

Id like to help but all i can do is 6x5x4x3x2x1=720 combinations to test. Maybe the drives serial number are stored in the raid bios array definitions? some guru here might have the answer.

Depens on the controller-- at least on the LSI's, Adaptec's, and 3ware's we use, it doesn't matter what order you plug the disks in as long as they're all on the same channel.

In fact, plugging disks in to the same controller on different places on the backplane is a key part of troubleshooting.

Naturally, YMMV.
