SATA 2.5" and 3.5"

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen 2.5" SATA drives yet but I may be interested in one for a testing machine I'm going to put together. It will be based on a VIA EPIA board of some kind and the idea is that it is quiet and small. I'll be using it mainly for a few Linux distro's and maybe Windows Server 2003 + Exchange (however funny this may seem...). So, when doing it's daily duty as a router/firewall it won't need much speed and space so an entry level lapto hard drive or even a CF card would be ok. But running Windows or perhaps compiling on the box would be faster with a standard 3.5" drive. Ideally I'd like to keep things as simple as possible and use as few interfaces as possible. So, if 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives have the same connector I'd be quite happy, especially because I have a 3.5" SATA drive lying somewhere.

The connectors are identical. 2.5" and 3.5" SATA have the same connectors.
