Mobo with a PCI-E x4 slot?

Recommended Posts

Well as the title suggests, does anyone know of a mobo with a x16 graphics slot and also, a x4 slot?

Ideally, the board should be Socket 939 or an LGA775.

All help appreciated.

Phil

I know of a couple, and have one:

Socket 939:

Asus A8N5X

Asus A8N-SLi Premium

(my board)

Socket T

Asus P5WD2

(the x4 slot is mechanically a x16 slot, this is NOT an SLi based board, it's an Intel chipset)

Asus P5N32-SLi

I know there are probably a few others out there, but I haven't seen them yet and Asus is the one that I've seen.

The only board I know of is that Tyan Tiger K8WE, (dual Opteron).

It's got 2x 16x slots, but one is only setup for 4x operation, with the other setup for full 16x operation.

Is that common? To set up a x16 for operation at ONLY x16? I am considering using an x8 RAID card in an x16 slot. This leads me to beleive I have to dig to find out if the slot is 'fixed'.

I think the K8WE has dual x16 slots, both running at x16, but only if you populate both CPU sockets.

The K8WE is not the only one. You can find many now. You can get any SLI motherboard and use it with a video card and another pci-e card, controller, nic, etc. I say any meaning if the bios supports it, but as of now, most of them do because they have released bios updates for the boards.

Hi Nox,

Correct for the Thunder K8WE , but not for the Tiger K8WE. The Tiger is fitted only with a single nForce 2200 chipset, which is limited to 20x lanes max. Tyan decided to set the default lane allocations to 16x for the primary slot, and 4x for the second slot.

(Yes, we all hate Tyan's confusing naming scheme).
