Posted June 29, 2005 · Report post There is a firmware update for the Hitachi 5K80 that corrects an intermittent clicking noise issue. There are probably other performance improvements as well. The latest firmware is available from IBM (firmware version A5HA): http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-41008.html (the file is fwhd3313.exe) It is also available from Dell (firmware version A5EA): http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...=en&s=dhs&cs=19 The above firmware is for 5K80 drives that came with IBM and Dell latpops. It is compatible with OEM 5K80 drives as well, but you have to do some editing to the config files for it to take (otherwise, the update will just abort).
