Zetera: Revolutionizing Storage

Recommended Posts

What's so special? They may modified the protocol a little bit, but it's same as iSCSI. Unlike what they said, you do not really need iSCSI HBA, a software initiator works very well.

It actually looks rather interesting.

Using multicasting and RAID features to make network attached storage more then just something you plug into the network. For 2 disk raid 1 array, you could get very good performance for many computers. Writes would be sent multicast, so that you didn't have to talk individually to each disk, while reads could be randomly issues to each drive to maximise read performance. Another possibility is to have this raid 1 array with one disk in different buildings each, for better redundancy and performance for all users.

This could actually be a decent use for multicast IP :)
