Serial ATA controller card.

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a serial controller card? I've had it with ATA's limitations. I’m going to connect 4 DVD writers, so I don't need raid. Thanks.

Highpoint does not make native SATA controllers. SiI does.

If you combine their ata chip with marvel's ata-sata bridge, you don't get ATAPI support.

If you decide to get an SiI 3112 based card and plan on using Linux, be sure to get one that uses the original SiI firmware. Most (probably all) no-name cards use the SiI firmware.

Linux support is good for he SiI 3112(A) in general, but some cards from brand-name manufacturers such as Adaptec (1210SA) use a custom firmware which can confuse the Linux drivers.
