What Codec Packs Do You Use?

Recommended Posts

I am curious as to what codec packs folks are installing on a regular basis. Do you use Nimo? Where do you get it? What version do you use? Do you prefer something else?

i've used the nimo codec pack (www.filemirrors.com)

also used defiler's pack.

The w32 codec pack distributed with Mplayer seem to play all of the necessary formats. I've gotten errors on a few of the new quicktime videos, but they continue to play.

Thank you for your time,

Frank Russo

I get by on the following codecs and don't use a codec pack:

Divx - MPEG-4 codec - www.divx.com

Xvid - Opensouce MPEG-4 codec alternative - http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml

vobsub - Subtitle Directshow filter - www.doom9.org

OggDSfilter - ogm splitter and ogg filter - http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm

ac3filter - AC3 sound decoder - http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/

These should let you play almost any .avi file created. I consider codec packs to be rather useless and problematic.

Do you folks use the ad-version of Divx?

Any luck playing back files created on Sony VAIO systems?

If it's only for playback, use the lite version which does add adware to your computer :D
