Playoffs For The Best Game You Can Name

68 posts in this topic

Yup Playoffs are nearly apon us agian. And for the first time in 7 years, my home team. the Calgary Flames are in the running...The top spots are all sewn up, its the bottom 1/2 of each division that is still up in the air...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/standings?gr...column=playoffs

Iam interested in how Vancouver and Colorado will rebound, each having lost an important player recently...

Its been a very disappoint year for JS Giguere, after carring the Ducks thru the entire playoffs last year, signing a zillion dollar contract over the summer... He's been pretty average this year... Perhaps teams were getting geared up for him this year.

After a little fight, the league tosses the flame's coach/gm Darryl Sutter, for 2 games, Krzysztof Oliwa, for 3... It was a rather luck-luster performance by the Flames, and Iam glad they got a spark going at the end of the game, if for no other reason, as to be able to bring some emotion to the next game...

The went to sleep in the 3rd period (as the Flames seem tobe prone too) and lost the game, giving up 2 goals in the 3rd....

Sports posts with the word "rebound" in them during the month of March should pertain only to NCAA hoops. ;)

Ok but I dont like b'ball. I'd rather watch Golf, at least I know who Tiger Woods is.

You have to know who the players in a sport are before you can watch it? That seems a bit limiting to me.

I like to watch hockey (and I like playing NHL 99 on my N64 even more...), even though I know nearly nothing about the players (though I know a bit about the 99 rosters). Like college basketball, the action is fairly constant, and there is generally a great deal of energy and heart.

It also helps that I grew up in a state where the only "major" teams were the Hartford Whalers (boy did they SUCK, but as the only local pro sport, you have to root for 'em) and the UConn Huskies (NCAA basketball -- men's and women's). But then the Whalers moved to Carolina and changed their name -- traitors.

The blue jackets are turn coats?

I just dont like b'ball, find it boring. Partly because I dont know anyone involved. I grew up with hockey, played as a kid, and Iam comfortable with it...

Well for the first time in 7 years, the Calgary Flames are headed to the playoffs... All the tickets went in 30 minutes this morning... Some Idiots camped at the box office all night, only to find the ticket where being sold by lottery. (meaning the guy that got thier at 9:15 had the same chance of getting tickets, as the guys who camped out all night. Sounds fair to me... )

Imagine, the Oilers have thier entire season boiling down the last game. They must win in order to have a chance at a playoff spot... (and nashville must loose at lease 1 of the 2 games they have outstanding) - the nails are being chewed in edmonton for a change...

Well Round 1 is winding down.

Nashville, St Louis, NJ, Dallas, NY Islanders, are all playing golf for the summer...

while Detroit, colorado, SJ, TB, all wait for round 2....

Any suprises so far?

Iam suprised by the spotty play of the Calgary Flames... Showing up on one night, to slap the canucks around like school girls(game 5), and then loose a heart breaker tripple over time game 5-4, in the next game....

Another suprise has been Inspector Clouseau, Montreal Canadians, who can fumble and bumble thier way thru to a game 7 and somehow still be seen as having a chance to win... Boston should be embarrassed to still be playing these fools, as this series should have been over in 4 or at most 5 games....

With the longest OT in history for thy Canucks, the last game involving the Flames nearly gave me a heart attack. How the hell could Vancouver squander a 4-0 lead? It seems like they have a history of losing it near the end of a match. Oh well, it's not like I've been following the NHL in great detail this year. Wish I had more time though....

Here's hoping the Flames get extinguished!

PS. I definitely think there's more enthusiasm in Vancouver this year as there are more cars with logo flags then ever. Secuirty is high at GM place too.....

And yet another over time... this one ended much better for the flames however...

AND its off to detroit!!!

Calgary is starting to play detroit tonight... Its rather funny, but detroits power play players (4+goalie), earn more money, than the entire Calgary Flames bench... ESPN is picking detroit in 5... Iam think Calgary in 6. We'll see in a few hours.

Okay Occupant, we’ll see how Calgary does tonight when they duke it out with San Jose. I’ll likely be at the bar (not this bar!), watching the game. Amidst all this, there’s a Molson and Labatts distributor strike going on here in BC. Eventually, it’ll hit all of us British Columbians hard. We’ll be compelled to buy some shotty, proprietary beer from a pub or something or get the expensive brands. Ah crap!

In other news....,

Brace Yourselves For An All-Canadian Victory

Team Canada goes for gold for the second year in a row as it faces the Swedish socialists. We WILL crush ‘em ‘n put ‘em all on welfare!!!!!!!

I was hoping we’d have that double Canadian victory last year, but heck, there’s still a chance of defeating the Americans and the Swedes this year! So there.....

Sharks Get Flamed Again!

http://www.cbc.ca/pcgi-bin/templates/sport...es-sharks040511

One World Cup victory down (Sweden pacified!), one western cup to go. Calgary’s on fire with a 2-0 series lead against San Jose. I’ve haven’t seen this much ambition in the Flames in a long time. With any luck, they’ll nab the series by game 4 in their home turf. :D

Well SJ took game 3, to stay alive. It was a good effort by SJ, goaltending, and officiating made the difference for them.. It had to be one of the worst officiated NHL games Ive ever seen. I hope the Flames send a protest to head office today, and get new officials for the sunday game... It was outragous...

Knowing Homer, all I have to say about the last Flames’ match is, ‘Doh!’

They’ll get ‘em tomorrow I’m sure.

I’d be very surprised if Philly doesn’t win the series over Tampa Bay. The latter is a younger team but with great potential.

In other news.....

The beer strike for BC is officially over. Amen! :D It plagued us for 10 bloody days. Now I can finally go back to the cheap stuff. And now we’re left with only one drought, and that’s the water shortage we’ll be facing this summer....

This is ridiculous! Is Calgary using the same run-and-gun style of playing as Vancouver?

Canucks won’t abandon run-and-gun style, vows GM Nonis

http://www.mytelus.com/sports/article.do?p...icleID=1610151&

Never get too comfortable in a game! That’s counter to the Canucks’ strategy that’s been used for years. This is not a good homecoming for the Flames.....

The beer strike for BC is officially over. Amen!

There was a beer strike in BC!? During the playoffs!

There should be permanent, automatic federally-mandated, cross-Canada, back-to-work legislation in place for all beer-related professions during the NHL playoffs (not to mention the World Juniors, the World, and the Olympics). Inconsiderate bastards! (What was going on by the way?)

Back on topic,

I'm starting to get really worried now guys. I could shrug off Game 3 & Game 4, but I don't like this new situation at all. I have firmly believed from the very beginning that the Flames could beat San Jose. After beating Detroit it would be such a shame to see them lose this close to the cup. And it would be so great to have the cup in Canada.

All of Halifax has been going crazy this series. The city is normally pretty much all Habs, Sens, & Leafs fans (a lot of Leaf fans <_< --no offense guys, just friendly Canadian rivalry eh), but people have been getting their hands on Calgary jerseys somehow and the bars are just as packed for Calgary games as they were for the Leafs vs Sens series (a lot friendlier now though --goddamn crazy Cape Bretoners :) ).

By the way, Jack, I definitely agree with you on the Philly series; experience just makes such a difference in the NHL playoffs. Philly is also probably the American team I like the most. I want to root for them, but I also want Tampa to go on, since I think Calgary will have a better chance against Tampa. Calgary on Philly would be an especially rough series I think. Of course Calgary moving on is not looking as likely as I hoped it would at this stage...

I think calgary will move on. After all the visiting team has one every game so far, and SJ has home ice 'advantage' ... Calgary has to find a way to win at home... I think they should play it like an away game... Get a hotel the night before, ride the bus into the 'Dome and knock the snot outa SJ...

I must be dyslexic guys. All day I have thought that Calgary lost yesterday. I didn't get to watch the game.

I thought it was 3-0 for San Jose. LOL. I feel much better now...

We cant have SJ and TB play for the stanley cup... There's a rule, it must snow in at least 1 city playing for the cup. Since it snowed here last week, and this weekend comming up, we're a shoe in...
