capacity of Maxtor HD reduced by Compaq

Recommended Posts

From Compaq I received a replacement HD, Maxtor 2B020H1. Acording tot Maxtor the capacity of this drive is 20,0Gb. Compaq has reduced it to 4,3Gb.

What have they done and how can it be undone so I can use the full capacity?

RMA that drive. Call them up and explain that the original drive was 20GB. You would like a replacement of equal or larger size. Have to checked the drive for other partitions to see if something exists on the drive?

Use the IBM disk tools version 1.5 to reset the size of the drive back to 20GB. You will lose all of the data on the drive when you do this.

This has been successful on a nimber of crippled western digital drives.

Thank you for your time,

Frank Russo

Tried it on a crippled 20 GB TravelStar. Didn't work <_<

Was the size of the drive it's replacing a 4.3GB drive?

Good question. If the defective drive was 4.3 GB you really shouldn't think Compaq will help you with your "problem".
