  1. LSI's no help and niether is IBM on this matter. I have a 4 drive RAID5 that consists of 4 - 250 gig hard drives (750 gb total size). What I'd like to do is "upgrade" the configuration to 4 - 500 gig hard drives. Unfortunately I can't find anything online about this. I know what I want to do and I know it CAN be done because I've done this on other systems like a Dell SAN. What I'd like to do is: RAID5: Disk0 - 250 -- Disk1 - 250 -- Disk2 - 250 -- Disk3 - 250 -- Step 1: * Replace 1 physical disk > Rebuild Array on the added disk (yes, I know it will ONLY rebuild on the 250 and that's OK) RAID5: Disk0 - 250 -- Disk1 - 250 -- Disk2 - 250 -- Disk3 - 500 -- > Rebuild > wait till done Step 2: * Replace 1 more physical disk > Rebuild Array on the added disk RAID5: Disk0 - 250 -- Disk1 - 250 -- Disk2 - 500 -- Disk3 - 500 -- > Rebuild > wait till done Step 3: * Replace 1 more physical disk > Rebuild Array on the added disk RAID5: Disk0 - 250 -- Disk1 - 500 -- Disk2 - 500 -- Disk3 - 500 -- > Rebuild > wait till done Step 4: * Replace 1 more physical disk > Rebuild Array on the added disk RAID5: Disk0 - 500 -- Disk1 - 500 -- Disk2 - 500 -- Disk3 - 500 -- > Rebuild > wait till done DONE! Then I should be able to go into the disk manager of the OS and "expand" the volume! I should have 1.5 TB with the upgrade. The "problem" is - if I take out a disk, slap a 500 gb one in the megaraid gui doesn't have any option OTHER than making it a system "hot spare". IBM obviously struggles with the gui or maybe LSI isn't making the options available. Anyway - anyone have any insight on megacli options for me to accomplish the task? Yes - I do have a FULL BACKUP of the volume just in case ;-) Thanks! Edit: Found another good explanation of what I want to do here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/rhelv6-list/2013-September/msg00011.html Unfortunately, nobody seems to post anything online in a clear way that works! :-(
