  1. Hi, I just bought a WD 10TB My Book Desktop External Hard Drive, USB 3.0 (WDBBGB0100HBK-NESN) and it is connected to my Macbook 2019 13" via Caldigit TS3+ thunderbolt hub. When I eject the drive from Macbook or even have Macbook turned off the WD hard drive continues to periodically(every 2 seconds) make fai t noise that sounds like head seeking noise as well as some other electric noises. It stops if I unplug the usb cable from the drive. I have many WD external My Book drives (8tb and under) and they never make this noise when ejected or when laptop off. Is this normal behavior or should I return it within 30 day window? Could it be a function of the helium drive design? Thanks.
  2. Hi, I have a Newertech Guardian Maxiumus with 2x2TB drives in a RAID 1 on Macbook Pro 2011 13" running 10.8.4. I turned on the drive tonight and got the dreaded "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." I saw the "rebuild" light blink but the drive indicators did not go red to indicate which drive was dead. I tried Disk Utility but couldn't see the drives. I removed the drives and put them in a Black X USB docking station but the same error showed up. I purchased Disk Warrior but DW doesn't even see the drive. I finally ran Data Rescue from Prosoft and it has sees the drive in quickscan mode and allowing me to copy files file by file/folder by tolder to a secondary 2 TB drive. Unfortunately it is going to take about 40 hours and I'm just wondering how Data Rescue is working and DW does not even see the drive. Do you know if there is any way to get DW to see the drive and get back the data faster? Do you know what causes this error? Could it be the Newertech Drive? I have the drive in a Sentry Fire safe and I was moving it earlier tonight on the ground. I hope that didn't cause any static buildup. Or maybe the Newertech drive sucks and caused an electric spike. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this. I saw some people had luck with DW and so I spent $108.
  3. I am looking at either the Sandisk Extreme (240gb) or the Samsung 830 256GB. I heard the Sandisk is faster but the Samsung is more reliable. Which should I get for image processing in Adobe Lightroom. I heard the Sandisk is faster with uncompressible data but the reviews show many problems. Thanks.
  4. hi, I had a 115 OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 3g I bought in March 2011. It just died today and the Macbook Pro 13" (2010) would only display a gray screen (no logo) until I pulled it out of the Data Doubler drive bay. I inserted the SSD into an external drive enclosure but the drive activity light when connected to a MAC and a PC would be constant red and the drive would not show up under disk utility or computer management(PC). Do you know what might have happened to this drive and is common with Sandforce drives as I have heard? Thanks.
  5. Hi, I just got the Samsung 830 256GB SSD and connected it via the supplied USB 2 kit to a PC running windows 7. I wanted to see if the SSD required a firmware update so I ran magician software(3.1) after formatting the SSD(NTFS) using the supplied SSD-USB 2 connector. Windows recognizes the drive. I ran Magician but it says "no Samsung SSD brand SSD found in the system". I just want to check if I have the latest firmware before installing it on my Mac. DO I NEED TO INSTALL THE 830 IN THE INTERNAL DRIVE BAY SATA CONNECTOR FOR MAGICIAN TO SEE IT? And is there a problem with the Jan. 12, 2012 firmware update? Thanks.
