  1. Hi there, I have just bought a couple of new hard drives. I have done a full format of them both, and now I am having trouble understanding the values of the S.M.A.R.T. attributes. I was hoping you might be able to help me out. I have copied the values from CrystalDiskInfo. Here is the system drive and one of my new drives, and further down I will paste in the second drive (CrystalDiskInfo can apparently not see both of the hard drives in my double-slot external case).     No I was not deliberately trying to skip the WD's Red series. I am aware that the extra speed from the 7K series is not going to get me much in terms of performance - and I would actually prefer a slower drive to keep down heat, noise and power consumption. It's just a shame that neither the Reds nor the 5Ks come as 4 TB drives..
  10. Hi there, I am looking to build up a NAS server (thinking about getting the QNAP TS-669 Pro), but I also need some disks. I was going for the 5K4000 4TB disks, but they seem to not be available anymore. Then, I was thinking about getting the 5K3000 3TB disks or, alternatively, in order to get more disk space, the 7K4000 4TB disks. I would, of course, like as much disk space as possible, with the least noise, heat and power consumption. Also, there is the issue of disk compatibility with QNAP's servers. What do you think?     Thank you very much for your reply. I've had feedback from HGST and they say that they should work in QNAP's systems. However, I am having trouble receiving any answer from QNAP. I asked if they thought there would be any problems with what I have proposed here, but the guy keeps telling me he "will check internal" and then I never hear from him again. Anyways, thank you for your reply. I may try and buy a couple and see. Anyway, I will be able to use them as external disks..
  13. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Hitachi's 5K4000 (HDS5C4040ALE630) drives in RAID 5. I am thinking about purchasing a QNAP NAS server for which I would like to use low-noise, power-saving, and high-volume drives, for which the 5K400s should be perfect. However, they are not on the QNAP's compatibility list, so I wanted to hear if anyone had experience with these drives in a RAID system before I go out and buy them. Thank you, xavis
