  1. If the data really is vital make sure you save another copy of it somewhere else too. The flash memory used in USB flash drives is typically of a lower quality compared to SSDs. I have seen drives that have been fine one day and then stop working the next.

  3. You could get an optical drive bay adapter for the SSD. e.g. Akasa AK-OA2SDE-BK I have a Dell Latitude 131L with a 64GB Crucial M4 in the Akasa adapter above. Read/write speeds are a lot slower compared to what the SSD is capable of without the adapter, but despite this the laptop feels a lot faster compared to when it had a HDD.

  8. Same here. I upgraded from a 300GB VelociRaptor to an X25-M 'G2' and the difference is huge. Never going back now.
  9. According to our account manager, Dell use Samsung SSDs in their Equallogic SANs (or at least they did when we had a demo of one last year).
  10. As MrSpadge said above, WD didn't lie. They just said the RPM of their Green Power drives was somewhere between 5,400rpm and 7,200rpm. Some people then (wrongly) assumed they were variable RPM drives, despite this being very difficult to do and no manufacturer has made a variable RPM drive for at least 15 years.

  12. There's nothing wrong with large capacity drives per se. Mechanical drives are always going to fail at some point. It's just a case of when. There are lots of other factors that could cause a drive to fail prematurely e.g. mishandling by the shipping company (FedEx/UPS etc.), poor case ventilation and so on.
