I wanted your opinion about when I should upgrade my current computer's harddrive specifically. Currently I'm running on:
Windows Vista Ultimate X64 SP2
Intel core 2 Quad Q6600 @2.40Ghz Kentsfield 65nm Tech.
8.0Gb of DDR2 @400MHz
ASUSTeK 5N32-E SLI PLUS (Socket 775)
512MB GeForce 8800 GT (EVGA)
2 - 488GB Western Digital WDC WD50 00AAKS-65YGA @ 5400RPM with 2 MB cache
I use it mainly for gaming and watching movies as well as online comic reading. My 3 step upgrade plan was to:
1. Wait until newegg put a 2Tb Western Digital Black on sale for less than $100
and then getting that to replace my current HDD as well as serving for my boot drive.
2. Then get windows 7
3. Finally, buy an Intel X-25M or which ever was the best value that your website favored at that time and using
that as both a boot and working drive for games(which I am currently playing while delegating my 2Tb and 2 other
western digitals only for storage(assuming they last that long).
Is this a good upgrade plan that I can accomplish before this year's end on the assumption that harddrive capacity keeps
increasing at the previous rate? Or do you see the harddrive field leveling off at current capacities and the price of Hdd's
unlikely to drop below the ratio of $.05 per Gb?
should I keep chugging along and simply buy large capacity 8Gb dvds to burn off my data and:
1. Wait for windows 8 to come out before buying windows 7
2. Then simply upgrade to a new PC with new motherboard, graphics card and larger harddrive with SSD.
Should I buy other drives that meet my $/Gb ratio once they drop below $.05/Gb?
Please share you thoughts, I'm not sure if I am just antsy because I feel that any day now, newegg will drop
the Western Digital Black's price or is that a long way coming? Thank you in advance.
