  1. Well, there is another anouncement for FLASH SSDs. This time, its targeted squarely against stuff like those new 15k 2.5" disks. http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site....;item_id=986902 http://www.memtech.com/pdfs/ZeusIOPSDatsheet.pdf No price given, but <0.1 ms acess time and 52k IOP/s seem rather juicy.

  7. So after the first partition is created, how do you go about aligning the second partition? Does Windows7/Vista do it automatically? For example, if the stripe size is 64k in a 5 drive Raid5, each full stripe = 256K. What if the first partition is exactly 1152K, that would throw off the alignment of the second partition if Win7/Vista were to use the standard 1024K offset. Or does Windows detect this automatically and will reduce to offset of the second partition? Thanks __________________________________________________ Strut assembly Shocks and struts Shock absorber

  11. I know, we get a little bored of plastic enclosures for our external HDDs, so manufacturers try to spice it up from time to time. Well, brinell purestorage has taken it to a whole new level with wood veneers, chrome and carbon fiber options. The one pictured below looks good and all, but 189 Euro for a 160GB drive? Yikes. http://www.brinelltouch.com/?language=en __________________________________________________ Chevrolet shocks and struts Chevrolet quick strut Shock absorber

  13. Hoping that someone could confirm whether or not this behavior is normal. I have two of these drives both setup as RAID 1. Recently one of the drives starting thrashing and seeking even when inactive, the drive simply has to be powered on in order for it to start seeking rather then parking. I've never experienced this with a drive before so i called WD to have an RMA issued, now the new drive that was sent to me does not do this. But what is even more odd, is that the other drive in my RAID array (the one which was not replaced) has starting doing the same behavior. So I have to ask, is this type of behavior normal? Is this some sort of offline S.M.A.R.T scan, or should I be concerned? Part of the reason why I chose these drives as storage to begin with is because they were supposed to be silent, and when these drives are seeking the way they have been rather then being idle, they are far from quiet. I appreciate any info as to whether or not this behavior is normal. Thanks
  14. I've been through hell & back with my Xeon setup, as you can see here. Anyway, I received my board back from Gigabyte (was "fixed" under warranty) yesterday & wouldn't you know it nothing is any different: both chips run at 68*C - 70*C under idle. It's been a very long ordeal & most stressfull I might ad. I've replied to Gigabyte Tech Support asking for a new board but don't expect an answer til mid-week & I can't see a replacement happening either. I'm wondering if a senior Canadian SR member would like to take a look at it for me? I'm at my wits end & don't know what else to do. If someone can throw my 2 Xeons into their own S604 system just to see what temps they get, that would do be doing me a lot. Hell, if you want the board as well I'd send it too (you must have registered DDR on hand). I just need to know if it's hardware or if I'm doing something wrong. I'd be willing to compensate you for your time. So, if there's any takers let me know what you want to have a look at her. I'd prefer to deal with a Canadian, since I've already been screwed over by customs many times over. Like I said, I'd only trust "established" SR members. Thanks for listening I'm off to the pub to drown my sorrows, although it seems my sorrows have learned to swim.....

    IDE Hotswap Drives?

Hi, in my investigations of rackmount cases and such, I've come across statements to the effect that only IBM and Seagate IDE drives are hotswap compatible. Is this true? Who makes the fastest, most reliable IDE hotswap drive? Thanks... __________________________________________________ ACURA shocks and struts ACURA quick strut MAZDA shocks and struts
