  1. Need Advice for Toshiba (hitachi) HDD

helo ok, thanks for advice! i worried abit about it as far i remember it never drop from default value (100) will do backup for sure thanks again
  2. Hello everyone i need advice on these toshiba hdd... they are actually hitachi HDS723020BLE640 (these drive are when toshiba buy 3.5 hdd plant from hitachi-WD) before i rarely check their smart until recently i found out one of 2 drives in RAID1(software IntelRST) have Read Error Rate dropped from 100 to 83 other smart status are normal reallocated sectors count, seek error rate, reallocation event count, currect pending sector count, uncorrectable sector count is clear basically the SMART status not showing any bad sign beside "Read Error Rate" i read intel rst can cause Read Error Rate also i read some article saying that its normal for hitachi drive that dropping abit of Read Error Rate (backblaze article?) but i have been using this drive for 28000hours (so it around 3years online)... so well i suspect there is wearing parts on it i need advice regarding this, should i replace the drive soon? or its normal and plus its in RAID1 so it will be fine for a while ? thanks in advance
  3. alright! thanks for all the advice Mighty Miro :)b
  4. ok i tried to record the sound well i use smartphone voice recorder, so its not clear and kinda skipping but please take a hear : http://vocaroo.com/i/s0qJb50uxXkz the noise i mean is, few secs after start(u should hear mouse click) @4secs thru 25secs on another note somehow the noise now, is not as as loud as few first test (few days ago) but still abit louder than FAEX good things is maybe it just fresh/new mechanical parts waking up first time ?
  5. afaik smart id 05 - 07 - 0A - 0B - C4 ~ C8 need to stay at 0 (default state) otherwise sign of internal failure even the threshold show different from a maker to another but i believe those ID raw value need to stay 0 if me, i am going to bring it back to shop again and get replaced it again by the 3rd time i still getting bad drive, i am just ask for refund and get another model/brand although reallocated sectors count should not related to usb cable (usually c7 that related to bad usb cable) but maybe good idea to replace the cable + adaptor just to make sure
  6. about the noise, so far only with WD DLG tools FAEX give similar noise pattern but much lower... the FZEX noise is really loud, its like reaching 50db? ... its like gpu fan on 100% anyway seems i cant find snapshot/copy option on windlg... i can make screenshot, but crystaldisk give more detailed info so here the smart data, so here the smart data those raid1 hitachi(toshiba label) drives, is like 3-4℃ lower they avg temp is like 38-40 ... while this new black is like 40℃(idle) up to 45℃ on working yesterday long extended test reach 47℃ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CrystalDiskInfo 6.5.2 Shizuku Edition © 2008-2015 hiyohiyo Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- OS : Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x64) Date : 2015/07/08 6:11:38 -- Controller Map ---------------------------------------------------------- - JMicron JMB36X Controller [sCSI] + Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller [sCSI] - Marvell 91xx Config Device + Intel® Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller [sCSI] - INTEL SSDSA2CW160G3 SCSI Disk Device - WDC WD3003FZEX-00Z4S SCSI Disk Device - Intel Raid 1 Volume SCSI Disk Device - HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSC0 SCSI CdRom Device + JMicron JMB36X Controller [sCSI] - PBDS CDRWDVD DH-48C2S SCSI CdRom Device -- Disk List --------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Hitachi HDS723020BLE640 : 2000.3 GB [X/3/2, cs] (2) Hitachi HDS723020BLE640 : 2000.3 GB [X/3/3, cs] (3) INTEL SSDSA2CW160G3 : 160.0 GB [0/3/0, pd1] - il (4) WDC WD3003FZEX-00Z4SA0 : 3000.5 GB [1/3/1, cs] - wd ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Hitachi HDS723020BLE640 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model : Hitachi HDS723020BLE640 Firmware : MX4OAAB0 Serial Number : ************** Disk Size : 2000.3 GB (8.4/137.4/2000.3/----) Buffer Size : 不明 Queue Depth : 32 # 8. hello everyone some people might already read my post regarding fake constellation seagate and i replace it with WD black FZEX Now, i got this noisy grinding sound every time i start either Quick Test and Extended Test the grinding noise is stay few secs on the beginning of test and the drive went to silent for comparison i have black FAEX model (4years+ old) on the test, the noise/sound pattern is similar but much lower noise so wondering if this normal or not and hoping maybe sir Kevin, or anyone else can help me confirm these if their WD drive (latest/manufactured in 2013-2014) for short-test aside that grinding noise i got from WD DLG tests, everything else seems normal, the hdd noise seems also normal
  9. ok here is the update with this hdd so i emailed seagate regarding this, and suprised they respond quite quick spot something weird ? know this hdd quite obvious is counterfeit product but why they use 3TB label to 4TB hdd ? i fully understand if they put 4TB serial number label to 3TB hdd, not opposite ... but when i think it again, it seems most people didnt check serial numbers, and as long the hdd work they wont care whether it is official or counterfeit hdd i wonder where this hdd originally from though... refurb hdd? then today i went to the shop, returning the hdd at first the staff going to test it, but i said the hdd work ok, its all about unmatched serial number/firmware/wwn the staff "okay, no problem we will replace it"... i see there like a box full of seagate hdd , not sure if all same model or not though... to bad they didnt let me choose from box, and they only bring like 2 unit for me to choose i notice serial number from those 2 unit is different each other (also different from unit i receive)... *rear label match also main label number counterfeiter nowdays really do anything to make a product as legit as possible ..... seeing this drive model is too suspicious ... i decide to ask refund and get another brand thinking to get toshiba, as they cheap and review about them is good... but to bad out of stock ... end up getting wd black... price like 2x toshiba drive!!... but oh well .... back to home, boot up this wd black (ver.2 FZEX)... everything good, serial number good... warranty registration valid the things is, the time i start short text/extended test WinDLG, it give fan noise! like few secs before turn back to silent ... not sure what noise is that .... going to test hard this drive before putting data in this one... maybe need to return this one too .... one more thing old black i have (FAEX) showing AAM support on crystaldisk but this FZEX not showing AAM support? is that normal ?
  10. Seagate Desktop SSHD 4TB Review

i read somewhere at backblaze blog that enterprise series drive not last longer than consumer drive, and even actually consumer drive last longer https://www.backblaze.com/blog/how-long-do-disk-drives-last/ some comment over blog Don’t ask me why, but in my experience, enterprise drives fail much more often, yes, that’s right, *more* often than consumer drives. I worked as a distributor, and saw the statistics. We were sending back a LOT of enterprise drives on warranty. Those very expensive 10krpm WD velociraptor drives were also DOAing like flies. Maybe it’s to do with volume? A desktop drive will be sold in much larger quantities, so it gets more R&D and testing? maybe storagereview someday can make article about "Enterprise vs Consumer drive tear down" (like ifixit teardown) so we can see if in those both drive have real different parts not only different in firmware because if only different in firmware, i wont waste extra money on it, not especially if i am using on SOHO NAS from backblaze blog, hitachi drive have last longer before failure in past 10years, i replace drive every like 3years, so i didnt get any hdd that completely fail on me but i got WD RE2 that fail itself and unrecoverable ... ever since that i switch to black series if you want to affordable way, just buy NAS type HDD and raid1 it, + get another drive for backup purpose or get cloud storage for backup
  11. Are fans any threat to a hard disk?

i believe hdd maker put consideration regarding thermal changes when designing their hdd but like we already know, for electronics, they better stay at stable temperature rather than cold-hot hot-cold on hot condition metal part can expanding, even it just a mere slight changes can cause failure overtime and shrink when back to cold another article i read recently is that often temperature changes can cause solder-joint to fail over time well i think thats why some people saying better leave system on 24/7 as for fans i dont think it cause any threat to hdd although hdd itself is not vacumm product, some hdd even mention not to cover holes, maybe u think dust will cause issue, but i dont think that will be the case the rotational hdd design push air outside instead sucking air inside another thing is more heat more isnt good for hdd especially in packed case, so u want fans to blow heat from hdd
  12. the funny things is that on store i see few this constellation hdds, and upon short check i see different serial numbers on those hdds despite same date and part number (not sure about WWN) the second label on side of hdd also match the main label thats why on the store, i think its safe enough (not counterfeit product)
  13. ok after more inspection i found out that not only serial number that different (between label & seatools) the firmware & WWN also different, as you can see in attached picture what do you think about this kind of hdd sir ? i starting thinking to return it
  14. yes that sound really possible the shop didnt mention anything (seems they didnt know anything) aside saying its Sale/Promo product and the warranty period is short too, they only giving like 1year, they said you can rma yourself to seagate after that. if this OEM take-off then its fine what i dont want is if this refurb/fake/counterfeit hdd i better go with real brand new WD black 3tb at similar price might worth to mention, although refurb hdd seems always reset smart status but this drive power cycle count is 1 at first i boot it up
  15. yes, the model is match, the dataspec such as cache 128mb and size is match i am going to make another recheck about this drive, i forgot to make screenshot with seatools i edit serial number parts for security purpose but if needed, i can send unedited thank you
