  1. Well I guess the question still is why is it slower? It even list 89MB/s when my eco WD Green drive lists 117 MB/s
  2. So I have a WD1002FAEX and when I run HDTUNE it shows SATA 2.6 (3.0 Gb/s) For some details I have 4 drives in my machine. 2 SSD's and 2 Hard Drives. Both SSDs as well as the 4th hard drive, a Western Digital Green is showing up as SATA 3 (6.0 Gb/s) The 2 SSD are using the intel controller and the 2 hard drives are using the Asmedia Controller. Now I've tried moving the WD Black drive to the intel controller and I've tried changing out the SATA cables but nothing seems to work. Western Digital Support wasn't helpful, they told me if their software shows nothing is wrong with the drive then its ok. They also said they don't trust these benchmarking programs, though oddly enough they have no software that test the SATA connection. Does anyone have any idea what is up with the drive? Thanks

    Seagate 750GB 7200.11 noise concerns

I went through two of these from they both had the same issue you listed (mine were the 500 GB ones), but they passed all the rest I ran. I didn't want to take a chance, and it was annoying to say the least, no HD in this day in age should be that loud if its only 7200 RPMS. Ending up going with the Hitachi Ultrastar instead.

    Hitachi Ultrastar A7K1000 500GB

Did you had any other issues with the 7200.11's apart from noise? Thanks. Both HD's I went through had the wrong firmware on them. To many issues to deal with.
  5. Just picked up one of these Hitachi Ultrastars from newegg, this was a replacement for two POS Seagate 7200.11 500 gigs I went though. This drive is very quiet, has a 32 meg cache, seems very fast as Vista gives it a 5.9 score. I can't seem to find any reviews on it, it may be relatively new. Has an average latency of 4.17ms accoridng to newegg. All in all I'm very happy with this drive.

    Seagate ST3500320AS

On a small off topic note, is this drive loud to anyone, I got one and I thought it was bad but I just got my 2nd one today and its making the same noise, almost like a light static noise. My new WD is dead quiet but this one seems to make noise when read/writing.
  7. Bought the new Seagate 7200.11 500 gig drive with 32 meg cache, the two programs I tried HDtune and some other both listed the cache as 0 bytes. When I asked Seagate about this they told me most programs can't read that so they just roll over to 0.
